The Bartholomew County Historical Society (BCHS) was organized on April 3, 1921. It's founders were George Pence, W.G. Irwin, Vida Newsom, W.H. Newsom, Hugh Th. Miller, D.J. Richards, J.R. Dunlap, and Yandell C. Cline. The groups stated purpose was ".....actively engage in the collection, preservation and dissemination of County and State history..."
Our goal is that we may know who we are today based on where we came from yesterday.

Since 1830, the Indiana Historical Society connects people to the past by collecting, preserving and sharing the state's history. IHS maintains the nation's premier research library and archives on the history of Indiana and the Old Northwest. IHS also provides support to local museums and historical groups.
IHS is headquartered in the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center – home of the Indiana Experience.
